Johnny Depp Wins Lawsuit
According To Uswhispers 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post in which Amber Heard described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse" led Johnny Depp to sue for defamation.
The trial, which had been broadcast on television for several weeks, has come to an end with the verdict.
It was a victory for Johnny Depp, who lost a libel case against The Sun in London in 2020 for calling him a "wife-beater." He celebrated and said the jury "gave me my life back."
Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages by a five-man, two-woman jury after deliberating for three days.
Also, the jury awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages for the 58-year-old Depp's defamatory claims against the 36-year-old actress.
In Fairfax County Circuit Court near the US capital, Heard sat impassively throughout the reading of the verdict, her eyes cast downward. She later declared herself "heartbroken" by the outcome.
There are no words to describe the disappointment she felt, she said in a statement. A mountain of evidence was not enough to overcome the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband. I'm heartbroken by this.
