Injuries and health issues forced McMillan to take a vacation from professional competition in recent years. However, he remained optimistic that he would return shortly. Before that, he had only competed in the 2020 Arnold Classic, finishing in sixth place.



In the wake of Cedric McMillan's death at the age of 44 on April 12, bodybuilders and fans alike were grieved. McMillan's health concerns had been well-known for months, and he had been unable to compete in many races, including the Arnold Classics in 2021 and 2022. This year's Arnold Classic champion served his country honourably for several years while stationed in his native South Carolina.


It's unclear how McMillan died, but the bodybuilding and fitness community has paid tribute to one of the sport's biggest stars in the previous decade with heartfelt messages.

As a young man growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, Cedric McMillan aspired to have "huge muscles." Additionally, he was an active duty soldier in the U.S. Army while pursuing his professional bodybuilding career in South Carolina.


The 2007 NPC South Carolina State event was McMillan's first bodybuilding competition, according to Muscle Memory. By taking first place in the overall standings at the 2009 NPC Nationals, he qualified for the IFBB Pro League.
