Early Years

Adam Noah Levine was born on March 18, 1979, in Los Angeles, CA. Adam was seven years old when his parents, Fredric and Patsy Levine, split up. He has said that his family is very musical, and he says that growing up listening to Simon & Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, and the Beatles, who were his mother's favourite artists, helped shape his own unique style of music. Levine went to Brentwood School, where he met Jesse Carmichael and Mickey Madden, who would later join the band Maroon 5.

Early Years in Music

In February 1994, Levine, Carmichael, Madden, and their friend Ryan Dusick got together to form a band called Kara's Flowers. In 1995, they played their first show at Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood. Levine sang and played guitar at that show. At a beach party in Malibu, where the band was performing, producer Tommy Allen saw them and hired them. Allen and his partner had Kara's Flowers record an 11-track album, and after that, producer Rob Cavallo signed them to reprise records. In August 1997, the band put out their first album, The Fourth World. The band also had a guest spot on Beverly Hills, 90210 that same year. After they graduated from high school, the guys went on tour to promote their album, but it didn't do very well. Reprise dropped Kara's Flowers after the album only sold about 5,000 copies. The band soon broke up.

Maroon 5

Levine and Carmichael moved to New York to go to Five Towns College after the band broke up. Eventually, Kara's Flowers decided to get back together. They changed their name to Maroon 5, added a fifth member, and got rid of one. Before he made it big in the music business, Levine worked as a writer's assistant on the CBS show Judging Amy. Adam wrote several poems and songs about his ex-girlfriend Jane while he was on Judging Amy. Maroon 5's first big hit album, "Songs About Jane," was made from these notes. It came out in 2002 and was certified triple platinum after it came out. The album sold 10 million copies and was the tenth best-selling album of 2004—two years after it was first released.
